September 09, (THEWILL) – Spanish side, Villarreal, have appointed Jose Rojo, known as Pacheta, as their new head coach.
The appointment comes after the club sacked previous manager, Quique Setien, earlier this week, following a poor start to the La Liga season. Under Setien, Villarreal lost three of their first four league matches and currently sit in 15th position on the table. The club announced on Saturday, that Pacheta would take charge of his first training session on Monday afternoon, before being officially unveiled to the media.
The 55-year-old Pacheta arrives Villarreal after being dismissed by Real Valladolid in April, during a relegation battle, which ultimately ended in the club being relegated from La Liga on the final day. Previously, Pacheta had helped guide Valladolid to promotion to the top flight and also led Elche from the Spanish third tier to La Liga between 2018-2020.
Pacheta’s first match will be at home against newly promoted Almeria on September 17, after the international break. Villarreal will be hoping the experienced Spanish coach can quickly turn around their fortunes and climb up the La Liga table after a disappointing start under Setien.
With the club having reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in the 2021/2022 season, the Yellow Submarine faithful will be expecting Pacheta to bring attacking football and a return to Europe’s most coveted competition next season.
