August 07, (THEWILL) – The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has announced that home-based athletes representing the country at the 2024 Paris Olympics have received training grants equal to their foreign-based teammates. This move aims to ensure fairness and improve morale among Team Nigeria athletes.
The announcement came during a meeting with athletes at the Olympic Village in Paris on Tuesday. Enoh addressed concerns about allowances and training grants, stating that all athletes, regardless of their base, now receive training grants alongside other allowances that have already been paid.
Diana-Mary Nsan, Special Assistant on Media to the Sports Minister, noted that home-based athletes had previously raised concerns about not receiving training grants, a benefit typically given to foreign-based athletes. The Minister acknowledged this oversight and emphasised the importance of equal treatment for all Nigerian representatives.
Enoh confirmed that athletes have received all local, foreign, and Olympic allowances, providing them with comprehensive support for their global competitions. This signposts the government’s dedication to the welfare and success of Team Nigeria athletes.
