August 09, (THEWILL) — The New England Patriots have honoured legendary quarterback Tom Brady with a 12-foot bronze statue outside Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, during a ceremony held on Friday.
The towering monument commemorates Brady’s extraordinary career with the team, which included six Super Bowl victories and transformed the Patriots into one of the most successful franchises in NFL history.
The statue was revealed before the Patriots’ preseason match against the Washington Commanders.
The bronze figure depicts Brady with one arm raised triumphantly, mounted upon a six-sided base representing his six championship seasons with the Patriots.
The total structure stands 17 feet tall, symbolising the 17 AFC East division titles the team secured during Brady’s tenure as starting quarterback.
The monument now occupies a prominent position in the plaza outside the Patriots Hall of Fame, serving as a permanent tribute to the player’s contributions to the organisation.
“This is quite overwhelming to me,” said the 48-year-old Brady during the unveiling ceremony.
“I feel extremely honoured, deeply grateful and, if I am being honest, kind of old.”
The quarterback, who was selected 199th overall in the 2000 draft and began as fourth-string before emerging as a superstar, added with characteristic humour: “I never dreamed I would be standing here two and a half decades later made of bronze and frozen in time. It feels pretty appropriate given my 40-yard dash time.”
Across 23 seasons in the NFL, including 20 with the Patriots before his final three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady started 333 regular-season games and 48 playoff contests – both records for NFL quarterbacks.
His 278 total victories represent another league record unlikely to be surpassed for years.
The three-time NFL Most Valuable Player also holds league records for completions (7,753), pass attempts (12,050), passing yards (89,214), and touchdown passes (649).
Patriots owner Robert Kraft addressed the significance of the honour, stating: “Tom Brady’s journey proves that it is not where you start, but where you finish that counts.
“Tom was not just the face of our franchise, he was the heartbeat. It is hard to overstate what Tom accomplished.
“He did not just rewrite the record books, he practically authored a new volume. This statue ensures his legacy will be preserved for generations to come.”
