March 11, (THEWILL) — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated an urgent reconciliation drive within the party, following the March 9, 2026 Court of Appeal judgment that invalidated the November 2025 National Convention, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee.
The decision came at the end of an Expanded Emergency Meeting of the BoT, held on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th March 2026. Chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT expressed its disagreement with the court ruling and said it is awaiting legal counsel on the way forward.
In a communique released after the meeting, the BoT expressed concern over internal leadership disputes and litigations, noting their detrimental effect on party unity and smooth operations as Nigeria’s main opposition party.
Nevertheless, the Board acknowledged the opportunity provided by the Court of Appeal for reconciliation and committed to exploring this window fully.
The BoT highlighted the need to prepare the PDP for the 2027 general elections, recognizing the aspirations of members seeking to contest various positions.
To this end, a special committee was constituted to interface with legal teams and stakeholders to foster reconciliation, resolve disputes, and restore the party’s political health.
The Board also applauded the ongoing nationwide e-registration of members, noting reports of millions of new registrations daily, which it described as evidence of Nigerians’ continued loyalty and confidence in the PDP as the party of choice ahead of the next elections.
The communique urged all leaders and members to set aside personal and group interests and unite in the overall interest of the party and the millions of Nigerians who place their hopes on the PDP.
It commended the commitment and leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for their steadfast support of the party and the nation.
In addition, the BoT, pursuant to Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu as Secretary of the Board.
The Board urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and confident as the PDP works to reposition itself to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and offer a credible alternative in the 2027 general elections.
