May 22, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, Newcastle United emerged victorious in a post-season friendly against Tottenham Hotspur in Melbourne.
The match, played in front of a staggering crowd of 78,000 fans at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, ended 1-1 after regulation time before being decided by a penalty shootout.
Tottenham’s James Maddison, who had recently secured a spot in England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad, gave his side the lead in the 32nd minute with a well-taken goal.
