October 26 (THEWILL) – The United States Department of Justice has now included Augusta National, the United States Golf Association (USGA), and the PGA of America in its ongoing antitrust investigation of the PGA Tour.
On August 3, 11 PGA Tour players who switched to the LIV Golf International Series filed a complaint against the PGA in an effort to overturn the circuit’s decision to ban them from Tour-sanctioned competitions.
LIV Golf joined the case later in the month. At least seven players had their names taken out of the case as of September. The DOJ’s probe is now wider than was previously known as it now encompasses a number of the most significant regulating organisations.
Due to its prominent mention in LIV’s complaint, Augusta National has provided documents to the Justice Department as part of the investigation.
A partnership between LIV Golf and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Tour was launched earlier this month in an effort to promote the MENA Tour and give LIV golfers access to the Official World Golf Rankings. The PGA Tour is accused in LIV’s antitrust action of utilising its dominant position to crush competitions and unfairly punish LIV participants.
