BEVERLY HILLS, September 4, (THEWILL) – Four policemen and an informant have been taken into custody on the orders of Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of Police, following an unauthorized Tuesday afternoon raid of the Abuja residence of a notable Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark.
However, Jimoh Moshood, the spokesman of the police force said the operation did not get the necessary approval.
“There was no notice before the search. The policemen just walked in and demanded to search the house.
“The Inspector General of Police has directed the detention and investigation of the Four (4) Police personnel and the informant involved.
“Notwithstanding, the facts that on daily basis the Nigeria Police Force across the Country receives information from members of the public which were promptly used to prevent and detect crimes and Criminalities, the Force will not condone misconduct by any of its personnel that can run contrary to the rule of law,” the spokesman said, adding that report of the investigation would be made public.
