November 04, (THEWILL) – Former Barcelona midfielder, Arturo Vidal and several Colo Colo teammates are being investigated for alleged sexual assault, Santiago’s prosecutor’s office confirmed on Monday. The investigation follows reports of an incident at a Santiago nightclub during early morning hours.
Police Chief, Gerardo Aravena, stated that the 37-year-old Vidal underwent an identity verification at a local police station. The prosecutor’s office has not yet named the other players involved in the investigation, and no arrests have been made. The incident reportedly occurred during a birthday celebration attended by multiple Colo Colo players.
The case emerges shortly after another Chilean football figure, Jorge Valdivia, was placed in preventive custody following rape accusations. The 47-year-old, who maintains the encounter was consensual with an adult woman, played alongside Vidal in Chile’s 2015 Copa America-winning squad.
Vidal, whose career includes spells at Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Inter Milan, has been a central figure in Chilean football, scoring 34 goals in 142 international appearances. The midfielder currently plays for first-division side Colo Colo in his home country.
