December 31, (THEWILL) – The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of Deacon Emmanuel Yaji, President-General of the Kunav United Development Association from his abductors.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, disclosed that the operation took place in Nambe Adikpo town, Kwande Local Government Area, where officers engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle.
“One of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was later confirmed dead by a doctor. Another suspect was arrested, while two others managed to escape,” Anene said in a statement on Wednesday.
She added that efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects were ongoing. Items recovered from the deceased kidnapper included an AK-47 rifle loaded with 12 rounds of live ammunition and three additional AK-47 magazines.
Yaji, who was abducted on Monday night in Tsar Mbaduku while relaxing with friends and associates, was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family.
The police reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state, urging residents to provide any useful information that could assist in tracking the fleeing suspects.
