July 17, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, has addressed the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding star striker, Harry Kane, dismissing the significance of his and Kane’s recent conversation during the club’s pre-season trip to Australia.
Postecoglou provided insights during a press conference ahead of a friendly match against West Ham, stating that their discussion was not groundbreaking and mainly revolved around the club’s progress and areas for improvement. The manager highlighted the collective focus and unity within the team, emphasising their shared objective of building a successful squad. He also affirmed Kane’s dedication to the club and its aspirations.
“He’s here, and while he’s here, he’s totally committed to what we’re doing, and that’s the way I’ve seen things,” Postecoglou said. Regarding transfer rumours, he revealed that there had been no contact from Bayern Munich, suggesting that any interest in their contracted players should be the concern of the interested clubs.
With the transfer window still open and the season set to commence in a month, Postecoglou expressed uncertainty about future developments. However, Bayern remain confident in their pursuit of Kane, with the club’s honorary President, Uli Hoeness, indicating that their participation in European competition next season could play a decisive role in sealing the deal. Following Tottenham’s eighth-place finish in the previous EPL season, they missed out on European qualification and the Europa Conference League.
Hoeness referenced this when he remarked: “Harry Kane has clearly signalled in all conversations that his decision stands. And if he keeps to his word, then we’ll get him because then, Tottenham will have to buckle.” Spurs will, however, continue their pre-season preparations with all eyes on the imminent EPL campaign, which kicks off with a match against Brentford on August 13.
