February 15, (THEWILL) – Chelsea Manager, Graham Potter, has moved to quash rumours of a potential rift between two of his star players, Mykhailo Mudryk and Marc Cucurella.
Following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Saturday, Mudryk appeared to criticise Cucurella in a now-deleted Instagram post that was also liked by the Ukrainian’s account. Mudryk’s post received a lot of attention from frustrated Chelsea fans, but Potter insists there is no issue between the two players.
However, Potter acknowledged that there was a slight misunderstanding. He said: “Playing against a back five, West Ham makes it difficult for you to access maybe the wide man’s feet and it’s just an understanding of when to play in space or how to make the runs. Mykhailo, that’s only his third game with us, so there’s no problem. It’s more just an understanding challenge, which is quite easy to understand when you recognise the context that we’re in.”
Cucurella, who has faced criticism from Chelsea fans on social media, could also be under threat of losing his place in the team following the return to fitness of Ben Chilwell.
Meanwhile, Mudryk is still settling into life at Chelsea following his £87.5m move from Shakhtar Donetsk. Despite a lively cameo debut against Liverpool, the 22-year-old was substituted at half-time in the Fulham match prior to his ineffective display at London Stadium.
