July 19, (THEWILL) – Liverpool came back in the second half to win their first pre-season fixture of the summer, beating Karlsruher 4-2.
Diogo Jota scored twice in stoppage time to secure the win for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp named a strong starting XI, including Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Luis Diaz. Dominik Szoboszlai also made his unofficial debut after moving to Anfield this summer.
Liverpool started strong with Darwin Nunez scoring in the third minute. However, Karlsruher equalised before halftime with a spectacular volley from Lars Stindl. Klopp made changes at halftime, bringing on 11 new players, including another unofficial debutant, Alexis Mac Allister.
Yet, it was Karlsruher, who took the lead three minutes after the restart with a smart finish from Sebastian Jung. The lead lasted for almost 20 minutes before Liverpool drew level with a goal from Cody Gakpo. Jota then scored twice in stoppage time to secure the win and ensure Klopp’s charges were not embarrassed with the result at the final whistle.
Jordan Henderson was not included in the matchday selection as his proposed move to Al Ettifaq edges closer to completion.
