January 15, (THEWILL) – American investment firm Presidio Investors has completed the acquisition of Italian football club Hellas Verona, marking another significant shift in Serie A ownership.
The Texas-based company obtained full control from former owner Maurizio Setti, who guided the club for 13 years.
The financial specifics remain undisclosed, though Italian media outlets indicate the transaction value approximates €130 million.
So far, Presidio Investors has declined to provide any comment on these figures.
Setti’s tenure witnessed Verona maintain its position in Italy’s top division, despite ongoing financial difficulties and frequent battles against relegation.
The club, which celebrated its sole Serie A championship in 1985, currently stands just above the relegation zone, maintaining a single-point advantage before their upcoming match against Lazio.
The organisational structure will undergo modifications, with former Roma Chief Executive Officer Italo Zanzi stepping into the role of Executive Chairman.
Setti will continue his involvement with the organisation in the capacity of Senior Advisor of Football Operations, collaborating alongside sporting director Sean Sogliano.
This acquisition returns the count of American-owned Serie A clubs to eight, following recent ownership changes at Genoa.
The Genoa situation remains complex, with Romanian businessman Dan Sucu’s control being challenged by investment firm A-Cap, who assert their rightful ownership based on their management of previous owner 777 Partners’ football holdings.
