September 30, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has proclaimed that star forward Kylian Mbappe will continue to be part of the club beyond the conclusion of the current campaign.
Mbappe had earlier verified that he does not intend to trigger the 12-month extension option in his present deal, which is set to end next summer. He was transfer-listed during pre-season but has since come back into the team. Still, PSG have not abandoned hope of retaining Mbappe and aspire to tie the superstar attacker down to a new contract, while Real Madrid lie in wait to make him the biggest free transfer in history.
It is understood Mbappe has repeatedly highlighted that he does not plan to sign a renewal, but in his interview, Al-Khelaifi insisted Mbappe’s time in Paris will not finish this summer. Asked if Mbappe will have at least one more season with PSG after this campaign, Al-Khelaifi responded: “Kylian Mbappe is a PSG player. He loves this club. He’s a fantastic player. He’s the best in the world. We are delighted to have him and we will have him!”
Al-Khelaifi, chairman of the European Club Association, also used the opportunity to argue he is not “at war” with either Barcelona or Real Madrid over their ongoing determination to form a European Super League.
“These clubs themselves know that I never mention their names – even on the board in a more private setting,” he said. “I always tell them and advise them that they can come back to ECA at any time. Join the family. They are welcome.”
