BEVERLY HILLS, May 27, (THEWILL) – The latest twist in the news storm of exit and turnover of managers across Europe, which has seen Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane, Inter’s Antonio Conte, Bayern’s Hansi Flick, Fiorentina’s Gennaro Gattuso becoming the spotlight of news headlines, now includes Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Reports monitored by THEWILL reveal that there are indications that he had become increasingly discontented with some of his experience at the French club that he may be seeking, not just a return to the English Premier League but a sensational return to the same north London club he left in November 2019.
The behind-the-scenes shenanigans that were partly responsible for the exit of German tactician and Pochettino’s predecessor as PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel, are still at play in the French side and may be interfering with the way the club functions, which has not been entirely satisfying for Pochettino.
Towards this end, the Argentine has reportedly held talks with Spurs management where a possible return has been mulled.
However, France Bleu Paris journalist Bruno Salomon has argued that there is no truth in Pochettino’s desire to leave and return to London. He called it fake news when he said:
“On this rumor of Pochettino who could not stay at PSG (because of the desire for a return to Tottenham or the freshness of relations with Leonardo or even departure at the request of Doha), I am clearly told internally that ‘It Is False’.”
Until there are official statements to back the facts for and against, the speculations will persist as arguments and debates continue on social media platforms, where the merits and demerits of a return of the Argentine manager to the EPL have taken on a life of their own.
Pochettino’s contract is in place for another season as June will be his first transfer window presenting him with the opportunity to mold the squad into his vision and begin to shape them with his ideology. That is why it comes off as confusing, the stories of his desire to leave even with the backroom politics.
The 48-year-old played for PSG as a defender in the early 2000s and must be aware of these matters. But, it is football, these things happen and time will tell which way the story goes and how the facts play out.
