July 05, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed parting ways with head coach Christophe Galtier after just one season at the helm.
Galtier, who joined PSG last summer on a two-year contract, impressed with his previous stints at Lille and Nice. Despite leading PSG to the Ligue 1 title and the Trophee des Champions, the club released a statement announcing the termination of Galtier’s contract, while expressing appreciation for his professionalism and commitment.
Galtier’s tenure saw PSG claim their 11th league title and maintain their position at the top of the table throughout the season, making history in the process. In their statement, the club thanked Galtier, as well as his assistants, Thierry Oleksiak and Joao Sacramento, and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Speculation surrounds the potential replacement for Galtier, with former Spain manager, Luis Enrique, reportedly among the leading favourites. PSG’s disappointing performance in Europe, including their UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Bayern Munich last season, coupled with an early exit in the French Cup against Marseille, contributed to the frustrations felt by fans. The team’s form also faltered towards the end of the season, with just three wins in their last six games.
The supporters’ dissatisfaction was evident as they booed both Galtier and Lionel Messi on the final day of the season, which saw PSG suffer a home defeat to Clermont. Meanwhile, Messi’s departure from PSG has already been confirmed, as he is set to join MLS side Inter Miami.
