June 19, (THEWILL) – Luis Enrique is poised to become the new head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, as negotiations between the club and the former Spain coach have reached an advanced stage.

This development comes after Arsenal Manager, Mikel Arteta, distanced himself from any potential interest in the position. Earlier this month, PSG confirmed that Christophe Galtier, who led the team to victory in the 2022/2023 Ligue 1 season, would not continue as head coach next season.

Several high-profile names were initially linked to the vacancy, including Jose Mourinho and Julian Nagelsmann, but talks with the latter, similar to his experiences with Chelsea and Tottenham, did not progress towards his appointment.

PSG Football Advisor, Luis Campos, advocated for considering Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, but sources indicate that no discussions took place as it became evident that Arteta had no intention of leaving the London club this summer.

As negotiations unfolded, Luis Enrique emerged as PSG’s primary target, having also previously engaged in talks with Chelsea and Tottenham. Over the weekend, discussions commenced to finalise the terms with the former Spain coach and reach a concrete stand on his appointment.

Although an agreement in principle has been reached between PSG and Luis Enrique, there are still a few remaining details and staffing appointments to be sorted out before the official announcement of his arrival can be made.
