Emma Raducanu

March 08, (THEWILL) – Emma Raducanu’s preparations for the Indian Wells tournament have been dealt a further setback as the British tennis star has withdrawn from an exhibition event before the main competition.

Raducanu was set to participate in the Eisenhower Cup mixed doubles with compatriot, Cameron Norrie, but her management has confirmed that she is being cautious with her body due to her fitness issues over the past year.

Raducanu, who is scheduled to face Danka Kovinic from Montenegro in the first round on Thursday, has also cancelled a practice session ahead of her withdrawal from the Eisenhower Cup. This comes after her absence from the ATX Open in Austin, Texas, last month, due to tonsillitis.

Since her historic victory at the US Open in 2021, Raducanu’s progress has been hampered by various fitness concerns, including an ankle injury at the ASB Classic in Auckland. As a result, Raducanu has slipped down the world rankings and is currently ranked 80th, which means that she requires wild cards for both Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

The 20-year-old will be hoping to overcome her fitness issues, regain her form and stage a return to compete at the prestigious Indian Wells tournament.
