April 08, (THEWILL) – The deadline for the four bidders trying to buy Chelsea to submit their final bids, has been extended.
Todd Boehly, Sir Martin Broughton, the Ricketts family, and Stephen Pagliuca, are still in the running after submitting early proposals to Raine, the firm in charge of the sale.
Raine has now notified the four that they will have more time to finalise their offers, with a deadline set for the end of next week.
Given that this is the largest auction in sports history, it is thought that the deadline has been extended out to allow bidders to be 100 percent certain of their proposal.
Raine is thought to be considering deferring its recommendation to the UK government until all four bidders have secured Premier League approval.
Since the final shortlist of offers was confirmed, league officials have been examining each bid, but the process may take well into May if all four bids are going to be checked.
Meanwhile, the Ricketts family has been working hard to repair their public image in the wake of a wave of criticism from Chelsea fans over Joe Ricketts’ racist comments in the past.
