March 27, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s preferred bidders have been given until April 11 to make their final offers for the English Premier League club.
THEWILL recalls that after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government for his ties to Vladimir Putin, four bidders made the final shortlist to take control of the club from the Russian businessman.
Raine Group, the New York merchant bank in charge of the auction, has set an April 11 deadline for the remaining bidders to make their final proposals.
Todd Boehly’s consortium, the Ricketts family, Sir Martin Broughton, and Stephen Pagliuca, are the only remaining bidders after several others dropped out or were turned down by the Raine Group.
These parties now have the opportunity to make better proposals, with Chelsea requiring at least £1 billion in future spending to secure their survival.
As THEWILL reported, Mason Mount stated on Saturday that the players are still in the dark about the club’s sale, but Chelsea got some good news earlier this week when the government changed their licence, allowing them to sell tickets again even if they will not be allowed to keep the money.
Chelsea can now sell tickets to any remaining Champions League and FA Cup fixtures they have this season, but only away tickets to their Premier League games at Stamford Bridge. However, season tickets and tickets acquired before the sanctions are still valid.
