December 02, (THEWILL) – German manager, Ralf Rangnick has been granted a work visa to take over at Manchester United on a temporary basis according to terms agreed with the club.
The 63-year-old, who has worked as a director since 2019, had to persuade the English FA that he deserved a permit due to his absence from the dugout, which meant he was not immediately qualified.
That was never thought to be a problem, but it has now been confirmed that the paperwork is complete and Rangnick is ready to take over at Old Trafford.
The gaffer is not anticipated to take charge of United’s game against Arsenal on Thursday evening due to the work visa delay. Instead, he will observe from the dugout, with his first match as interim manager slated to take place against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Despite reports that United coach Micheal Carrick was speaking to Rangnick on a headset during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea and may do so again, Rangnick is unlikely to play any part in the game.
Michael Carrick, the current caretaker, has stated that he had yet to see Rangnick in person, when asked about his contact with the incoming boss while speaking with the club’s website: “No, it’s pretty much as it was with the both games we’ve been to.
“Because of the process and the work permit, we haven’t been able to, so we’ve carried on as we have done. It’s worked well for the last two games and hopefully it will as well tomorrow.”
However, Rangnick will be allowed some input in the search for a new permanent manager as he prepares to transition into a consultant role at Old Trafford after overseeing the squad until the summer.
The former Red Bull boss will also be entrusted with assisting United’s summer transfer business, with a substantial incentive reportedly inserted into his contract if he can assist the club in signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, as THEWILL reported.
