Rangnick

March 14, (THEWILL) – Manchester United are sweating the availability of Portuguese midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, after he was a surprise omission from their weekend win against Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier league.

Ralf Rangnick has stated that he will give Fernandes every opportunity to demonstrate his fitness, ahead of the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Rangnick later confirmed that the midfielder had tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, he is a clear doubt for Tuesday’s match against Atletico Madrid, which is evenly poised after United escaped with a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Replying to questions about the possibility that Fernandes will play against Atletico, Rangnick admitted: “I don’t know. We will have to wait and see until Tuesday. This will probably be a last-minute race with him – due to COVID.”

There is hope for United as Fernandes reported to team training on Monday, but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to play any part in United’s game on Tuesday.
