September 16, (THEWILL) – Napoli scored two late goals to earn a 2-2 draw away at Genoa in their Serie A clash on Saturday.
Mattia Bani and Mateo Retegui had put the hosts ahead, but Giacomo Raspadori and Matteo Politano struck in the last 15 minutes to earn the reigning champions a point. Genoa took a deserved lead through Bani’s far post header four minutes before half-time after Napoli failed to deal with an Albert Gudmundsson corner.
The visitors lacked a cutting edge in the first half and struggled to create clear openings. The home side doubled their advantage on 56 minutes when Retegui brilliantly finished past Alex Meret after the Napoli defence again hesitated from a Kevin Strootman pass.
Napoli finally rallied and reduced the deficit through Raspadori’s long-range strike on 76 minutes. Then five minutes from time, Politano volleyed home Zielinski’s clever lofted pass to snatch a point.
Genoa came close to winning it late on through Gudmundsson but had to settle for a credible draw against the reigning champions. On Wednesday, Napoli will travel to face Braga in the UEFA Champions League while Genoa are away to Lecce on Friday in the Serie A.
