Real madrid

May 29, (THEWILL) – A Vinicius Junior winner saw Real Madrid win a record 14th UEFA Champions League trophy, with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in a final that was delayed due to security considerations in Paris.

The Brazilian forward scores from close range Federico Valverde’s driving cross just before the hour mark, after the Merseysiders had dominated for long spells, but could not find a way past the inspired Thibaut Courtois, between the sticks for the Spanish giants.

Liverpool dominated the opening stages, with Sadio Mane’s spectacular strike wonderfully tipped on to the post by Courtois. Real struggled to create anything noteworthy until Karim Benzema’s goal was controversially ruled out for offside, just before halftime.

Liverpool remained the more dangerous team, but Real took the lead on 59 minutes when Vinicius scored off a brilliant counter attack. The Reds fought for an equaliser for the rest of the game, but they could not get past Courtois, who put forth one of his best efforts to lead his team to victory.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, therefore, finished the season with just two domestic trophies under their belts, but they fall short in both the UCL and the EPL. Real, on the other hand, has added another European trophy to their La Liga victory, capping off a fantastic run to the final.
