Real Madrid

April 10, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid restored their 12-point advantage at the top of La Liga table with an easy win against Getafe on Saturday night, following their stunning success at Chelsea last time out.

Casemiro dived to head in Vinicius Junior’s wonderful cross for the opening goal, before Lucas Vazquez’s cool finish sealed the win in the second half.

Following his hat trick at Stamford Bridge in midweek, Karim Benzema appeared to have given Real the perfect start when he rolled in inside five minutes, but his strike was chalked off as the offside flag was raised.

Los Blancos’ mostly cycled midfield three of Eduardo Camavinga, Casemiro, and Federico Valverde controlled possession, with Marcelo, Valverde, and Vinicius all forcing David Soria into saves of varied difficulties.

The visitors’ resistance was finally broken in the 37th minute, when Vinicius’ wonderful cross with the outside of his boot found Casemiro, who had the seemingly simple chore of nodding the ball home and he did not disappoint.

When full back Lucas Vazquez connected with Rodrygo to coolly slot into the far corner midway through the second half, the game was finished as a match, even though there was still time to play.

Getafe did not register a single shot on target, making it an easy outing for a rotated Blancos side. The visitors only came closest in injury time, when Enes Unal hit the crossbar on the break, but it was too little too late.

Sevilla beat Granada on Friday night to close the gap on Real, but the Madrid giants restored their lead with this Saturday night victory, as they try to lock up the title as soon as possible.
