April 15, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe, has received a one-match suspension from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following his tackle on Alaves midfielder, Antonio Blanco. The disciplinary action was confirmed on Tuesday after the incident that occurred during Sunday’s fixture between the two clubs.
The French international was initially shown a yellow card for the challenge, but the referee subsequently changed his decision to a straight red following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review. The RFEF Disciplinary Committee determined that the dismissal warranted the minimum one-match sanction under article 130 of its regulations.
Mbappe issued an apology to Blanco and his Real Madrid teammates in the aftermath of the incident. The suspension means the forward will not participate in Real Madrid’s upcoming match against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, creating a significant absence for the Spanish side.
In the same match, Alaves defender Manu Sanchez was also dismissed for a similar challenge on Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. The RFEF has confirmed that Sanchez will likewise serve a one-match ban for his actions during the fixture.
The disciplinary outcome follows standard protocol for straight red card offences in La Liga, with both players accepting the minimum punishment without appeal. Real Madrid will need to adjust their tactical approach for their next fixture, while Alaves will similarly need to compensate for the absence of Sanchez in their defensive line.
