December 03, (THEWILL) – There have been conflicting reactions among Ghana supporters to the resignation of Ghana national team coach, Otto Addo, with some urging the Ayew brothers, Jordan and Andre, to do the same.

After losing 2-0 against Uruguay on Friday, the Black Stars were unable to advance to the Round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Ghana had initially lost their opening Group H match 3-2 to Portugal, before overcoming South Korea 3-2.

Ghana’s opportunity to take the lead against Uruguay came from the penalty spot, but Andre Ayew’s shoddy attempt was stopped by the keeper. After the game, Addo told the media that he would be stepping down as coach.

Majority of the Ghanaians, who reacted to his decision were engaged in a fiery debate on social media about the necessity of his departure and the need to overhaul the entire team beginning with the exit of the Ayew brothers.

A few also traced the blame to the Ghana Football Association, claiming he was impressed upon by the association to feature some players due to their selfish agendas. The politics at play in Ghana football was reminiscent of the Nigeria Football Federation, even though Nigeria fans, who joined in the debate, argued that a Nigerian coach in Addo’s situation will never have resigned.
