December 13, (THEWILL) –Â After the UEFA Champions League draw was redone by UEFA in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday afternoon, the outstanding tie of the revised draw of the last 16 stage of the competition is now Paris Saint-Germain versus Real Madrid.
The first round of the draws, which pitted Manchester United against Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich against Atletico Madrid, was cancelled due to a “material error” that unintentionally excluded Manchester United from a potential tie against Atletico.
United and Atletico were pitted against one another this time, with Chelsea and Lille being the sole tie from the bungled first draw that was repeated.
Real Madrid, who were earlier drawn against Benfica in what appeared a comfortable matchup for the Spanish giants, will be disappointed to suddenly be pitted against a more formidable PSG team that features their former center-back Sergio Ramos and former rival, Lionel Messi.
Liverpool will play Inter Milan, while Manchester City will face Sporting CP.
Each seeded group winner was placed against an unseeded group runner-up in a random draw, while country protection was maintained. For this round, clubs that qualified from the same group were separated.
The full draw for the Champions League last 16 is:
Red Bull Salzburg vs Bayern Munich
Manchester City vs Sporting
Ajax vs Benfica
Lille Vs Chelsea
Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid
Juventus vs Villarreal
Liverpool vs. Inter Milan
Real Madrid vs Paris Saint-Germain
