August 24, (THEWILL) – Race driver Daniel Ricciardo has parted ways with McLaren and after the 2022 Formula One season, he will no longer be affiliated with the Formula One racing team.
Even though Ricciardo still had one year left on his contract, his disappointing underwhelming performance at McLaren had put him in the firing line for months. And it was clear Ricciardo would probably move in 2023 after McLaren signed a number of prospects for his position.
On Wednesday, the team issued a statement admitting Ricciardo’s impending exit, making it official.
Zak Brown, team CEO said: “It’s no secret that we hoped we could achieve more together, but seeing him stand on the top step of the podium as a McLaren driver was a highlight. We wish him well for the future and let’s go enjoy the rest of the season together.”
There have been “several months of discussions,” according to Ricciardo, that have led to this decision to end his contract early. The 33-year-old Australian driver stated that he would continue in the series but will “in due course” reveal his future F1 team.
