January 09, (THEWILL) – Portuguese football club, Brito Sporting Club, has signed Nigeria-born footballer, Yaqub Usman-Malah, in a significant transfer move. The club presented the talented young player during an official ceremony on Saturday.
Born in Nigeria in 2006, Usman-Malah developed his skills at Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom, where he demonstrated remarkable performance statistics. His record includes 17 goals across 32 matches, maintaining perfect attendance through 116 training days, totalling 2,270 minutes of playing time.
Tomasz Wasylik, the Under-17B team lead coach at Brooke College Football Academy, commended Usman-Malah’s character and abilities. “He is a well-liked person and exemplifies professionalism with his exceptional work rate,” Wasylik enthused. The coach emphasised Usman-Malah’s versatility, noting his tactical understanding and technical proficiency across multiple field positions.
During the 2023/2024 academic year, Usman-Malah participated in National School Cup competitions, competing against various colleges and programmes. His consistent performances attracted attention from several clubs before his move to Portugal.
The transfer represents a significant step forward for the 18-year-old footballer, who joins Brito Sporting Club with that impressive track record from his time in UK youth football. The Portuguese club, established in 1956, continues its tradition of recruiting promising international talent.
Speaking to media representatives on Wednesday, Usman Malah, the player’s father, shared his sentiments: “While looking forward to the display of his unarguable skills and boundless stamina, we wish Yaqub a successful career and a place in the halls of football greatness across the globe.”
