November 14, (THEWILL) – Brendan Rodgers has calmed fears over the substitution of James Maddison, an English midfielder, in Leicester’s penultimate match before the World Cup after only 25 minutes, saying it was “just precautionary” and nothing serious.
The Leicester manager claimed that Maddison, who was selected for the England team for the tournament in Qatar, has a sore knee though the 25-year-old started the scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League victory at West Ham before being substituted.
Rodgers said: “He’s fine. It was just precautionary, a little soreness on the side of the knee. He hasn’t trained a lot this week. He’s OK. It was a difficult day for players going to the World Cup. We’ve tried to protect them.”
After falling at the London Stadium shortly after taking a corner, Maddison was examined by the Leicester medical staff and then allowed to leave the field.
On Monday, November 21, England will play Iran in the opening round of the World Cup.
