April 18, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid secured their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The triumph of the Spanish giants owed much to the clinical finishing of Brazilian winger Rodrygo, who struck twice in the second half to complete a 4-0 aggregate win. Chelsea will be left rueing their missed chances, particularly in the first half when they dominated proceedings but failed to convert a string of gilt-edged opportunities.
The Blues played with real intensity in the opening period, creating a flurry of chances, the best of which fell to N’Golo Kante but the Frenchman skewed his shot wide on 11 minutes. Although the hosts dominated possession and territory, they were left to rue their profligacy when Rodrygo opened the scoring from close range in the 59th minute.
The Brazilian added his second of the night 10 minutes from time to seal the win for the visitors. It means Real Madrid will now face either Manchester City or Bayern Munich in a blockbuster semi-final clash in May. The holders were far from their best against Chelsea but showed their clinical edge to get the job done.
