June 03, (THEWILL) – As a new era unfolds at Old Trafford, Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has encouraged Manchester United to allow new manager, Erik ten Hag, time to transform the club.
Following United’s worst-ever Premier League season, where their lowest ever total points could have seen them finish seventh instead of sixth, had West Ham beaten Brighton on the last day, Ten Hag takes charge at Old Trafford with the task to overhaul the team to once again challenge for titles.
Despite that terrible record, Ronaldo had a relatively successful season, scoring 18 goals in 30 Premier League matches and scoring crucial goals that took United to the Champions League knockout rounds. There were stories that claimed he was going to leave to play UCL next season, but he gave no such indication.
“I know he did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach, but we need to give him time and things need to change the way he wants,” Ronaldo said. “I hope we have success of course because if you have success all of Manchester are going to have success as well. So I wish him the best.
“We are happy and excited, not only the players, but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that next year, we’re going to win trophies. For me, the most important thing is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup, but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong. As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe.”
He finished by thanking the fans for the unflagging support for the team even after the Red Devils lost and expressed his hope that they will win some championship or some cup with ten Hag.
