October 08, (THEWILL) –Â Following his return to English football in the summer, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been named Premier League player of the month for September.
Ronaldo won the September prize ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.
Ronaldo returned to United on transfer deadline day at the end of August, and made his second appearance for the club in a 4-1 win over Newcastle following the September international break.
The 36-year-old scored in the first half stoppage time of that contest at Old Trafford, then doubled his tally soon after the hour mark to restore his team’s lead. He went on to score against West Ham in an away win a week later.
Ronaldo has now won the Premier League’s Player of the Month accolade five times in his career. During his initial stay at United, he won four times and is one of only eight players in history to win in consecutive months, which he did in November and December 2006.
