BEVERLY HILLS, January 25, (THEWILL) – Records are never sacrosanct as far as a player of Cristiano Ronaldo’s calibre is concerned as he has consistently made a career out of breaking records. Whether it is about his incredible goals haul, or an overflowing deck of trophies or epoch-setting transfer fees, whenever he laces his boots, he is never far from breaking another record.
Much of this is attributable to the remarkable longevity he has striven to maintain at the highest level of his game and his unbridled tenacity to remain incomparably the best at it. This has made him persistently push himself to the limits of human endurance to the point of being considered as, if not the greatest of all time, one of the greatest ever.
This trend of record smashing was apparent recently when, after scoring his 760th career goal in the Italian Super Cup triumph against Napoli, the Juve pointsman was acclaimed to have overtaken a long standing goal-scoring record held by the outstandingly superb Czech goal-machine Josef Bican, who netted 759 official goals during his remarkable career between 1931-1955.
But, the stats that were applied in adding up Bican’s goal record have been questioned just as some of his rivals for the great honour of the highest total goal-scoring record ever, including Brazilian legends Pele and Romario, have both claimed to have notched up more than 1000 goals during their respective illustrious careers.
With the evidence fuzzy and vague to ascertain without doubt if these records are as factual as those who put them forward claim they are, it might not be entirely possible to lay the facts to rest. However, this debate aside, the Portuguese superstar can certainly break another record, with no controversies attached.
According to ilBianconero, the Juventus record for the fastest player to reach 100 goals in their famous black and white colours is currently held by local legend Omar Sivori who attained the feat of triple digit goals in 124 matches.
So far, Ronaldo has found the back of the net 85 times for the Old Lady, in 109 appearances. To reach and possibly overtake the record, the forward will need to score at least 15 goals in the next 15 matches.
On paper, though these numbers appear a stretch to reach, it is not what anyone who knows the capacity of Ronaldo to achieve set goals will put past him. The serial best footballer-of-the-year winner who has been on a great goal-scoring run this season, averaging a goal per match during the current season can very well attain that feat.
