October 12, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be charged for last season’s incident in which he appeared to knock a phone out of an Everton fan’s hands but Old Trafford plans to support him through the upcoming FA improper conduct hearing and will present some mitigating facts in his favour.
The FA accused Ronaldo of violating rule E3, which deals with improper and/or violent conduct, from that incident in April, when Ronaldo seemed to smack a phone out of a young Everton fan’s hands as he was heading to the locker rooms at Goodison Park following a 1-0 loss.
Ten Hag appeared to imply that Ronaldo would not accept the FA charge when asked about it prior to Manchester United’s Europa League match against Omonoia Nicosia. Ten Hag said: “We will talk about that and he will not accept it.”
Later, though, club insiders clarified Ten Hag’s remarks and denied that Ronaldo would dispute the FA complaint and an FA hearing has been scheduled for the matter.
THEWILL recalls that after the incident, Ronaldo apologised to the fan and was later warned by Merseyside police. After the event, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram that handling emotions in trying circumstances like the one we are in was “never easy.”
