BEVERLY HILLS, December 15, (THEWILL) –Â The governing body for Rugby Union in Nigeria, the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), has released courses and guidelines for prospective enthusiasts.
These courses are structured for followers of the game who intend to deepen their knowledge of the sport and will be offered at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) ahead of the 2021/2022 session.
Kelechukwu Mbagwu, President of the NRFF, revealed this development during a virtual meeting with members of the NRFF Board, which confirms efforts being made by the Board to expand rugby from the fields to the lecture rooms where more knowledge can be acquired by coaches and administrators, fans and enthusiasts alike.
John Dadi-Mamud, Director of the NIS, confirmed the inclusion of rugby into the Institute’s programmes after meeting with some members of the federation in Lagos.
The courses on offer include; Advance Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma in Coaching, Marketing, Stadium Management and Sports Management with a maximum duration of 24 months.
Also included is a three-month sandwich Basic Coaching Certificate for candidates interested in expanding their knowledge in Rugby and 22 other sporting disciplines in the Institute’s brochure.
Followers of the sport have welcomed the inclusion of rugby in the programme of the institution with frenzied excitement. Players, coaches and some other enthusiasts were quick to describe it as a move in the right direction towards creating an intellectual boost to the game in the country. And good for grooming home-based talents in the game.
