December 14, (THEWILL) – Sabrina Ibánez has been re-elected as President of the Association of Paralympic Sports Organisations (APSO) for a four-year term that will finish in 2025.
The Swiss official was unanimously elected during the APSO General Assembly, which took place before Andrew Parsons was re-elected as President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for a second term.
In post-election remarks, Ibánez, who is also the Secretary General of the International Equestrian Federation, said: “It is a huge honour to continue in my role as APSO President and I would like to thank the APSO membership for their confidence in me.
“As some Paralympic sports begin the move to International Federations and other organisational structures, APSO and its members are well placed to provide these sports with the necessary expertise and experience to ensure a smooth transition process.
“As the Paralympic Games in Tokyo have shown, Para sport is growing in stature and has an important role to play in changing views and perceptions about disabilities in communities around the world.
“And APSO is committed to working with the IPC to build a world where diversity and inclusion is the norm.”
Ibánez was elected President of the APSO for the first time in 2017, when the organisation was founded with the purpose of combining the International Federations that control 19 paralympic sports at summer and winter Games.
