SAN FRANCISCO, September 16, (THEWILL) – Suspected armed robbers have reportedly attacked officials of Warri Wolves Football Club on Friday, seizing N3.5 million of the bonus meant for the players.
Reports indicate that the officials of the club, owned by the Delta state government, were accosted while returning from the bank where they went to withdraw the money.
The officials had left the bank opposite Urhobo College, and were so close to Peabody Hotels, where the players were lodged, in Uvwie local government area, when they were attacked by men said to be dressed in military uniform.
Celestina Kalu, spokeswoman of the Delta state police command, confirmed the incident, and said investigation was ongoing.
Meanwhile, in the latest FIFA rankings Nigeria has moved three spots to the 64th position in the world and is now ranked 14th in Africa.
However, Zambia, Nigeria’s opponent in the World Cup qualifier taking place next month, is ranked 92nd, Cameroun dropped five places to 59th while Algeria is now 35th position.
Côte D’Ivoire is now ranked number one in Africa.
