January 14, (THEWILL) – San Diego Wave FC have strengthened their attacking options with the addition of Nigerian forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu. The 19-year-old striker joins the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side from Rivers Angels FC of the Nigerian Women’s Premier League for an undisclosed fee.
The talented forward has signed a one-year contract through 2025, pending medical examination and required documentation including her International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa. Standing at 5-3, Okwuchukwu brings international experience despite her young age.

With her skillset, we believe Chiamaka will complement our current attacking players very well and be a key contributor to the team.”
Born in Njaba, Nigeria, Okwuchukwu has represented her nation at youth international level with distinction. Her recent performance at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia demonstrated her offensive capabilities, where she recorded two goals and one assist across four matches.
The striker’s international experience extends back to 2022, when she represented Nigeria at the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica at just 16 years of age. During that tournament, she contributed to Nigeria’s undefeated run in the group stage before their quarter-final exit against the Netherlands.
Okwuchukwu, who was born on August 7, 2005, will occupy an international roster slot for San Diego Wave FC in the 2025 season.
