January 14, (THEWILL) – Jadon Sancho wasted no time making an impact on his return to Borussia Dortmund, grabbing an assist just 20 minutes after coming off the bench against Darmstadt on Saturday. The 23-year-old winger rejoined Dortmund on loan this week after a turbulent spell at Manchester United.

Having fallen out of favour with United manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho will be hoping to rediscover his best form in familiar surroundings. He was previously a star performer for Dortmund between 2017-2021, racking up 50 goals and 64 assists. However, he struggled to replicate that productivity at Old Trafford.

His second Dortmund debut got off to a flying start when he set up Marco Reus for the third goal in a 3-0 win. Driving down the right flank, Sancho’s cutback found Reus for a simple finish. It was a glimpse of the electric wing-play that Sancho was renowned for during his first spell in Germany.

Allegations about Sancho’s discipline and work ethic were strongly denied earlier this season. Former United manager Ralf Rangnick claimed he never had issues with the England international. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has also backed Sancho, stating: “Jadon has no problem with discipline, I don’t know who thought that up.”

Sancho will now be aiming to continue this good form in his Dortmund return and recapture the outstanding form that saw him develop into one of Europe’s most exciting talents. Reintegrating successfully could put him back into contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of Euro 2024.
