January 16, (THEWILL) – After the English Premier League issued a statement alleging financial misconduct, Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, admitted feeling “concerned” about his club’s purported breaches of profitability rules. Independent commissions will now review the claims, with judgments expected within three months.
The EPL announced on Monday, that Forest and Everton accepted they surpassed acceptable loss thresholds between 2021-2023. Everton received a 10 point deduction for similar offences earlier this season – the toughest sanctions in English top flight history.
Potential punishments pose a severe threat to Forest’s survival hopes in this campaign. The club currently sits precariously 4 points above the relegation zone. When quizzed on the saga, Santo told reporters: “We are all concerned at the club.”
The Portuguese manager explained his priority remains on-pitch duties, including an upcoming FA Cup replay with Blackpool. “My job is clear; to prepare the team. We have a match tomorrow and that’s what we are focused on,” he insisted.
Santo gave little away when asked if he knew of the financial allegations before taking the managerial hot seat last month. “All the meetings and conversations we had were private,” he noted. The Forest boss confirmed he still intends to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window amidst the ongoing profitability investigations.
