November 06, (THEWILL) – Raoul Savoy, the recently dismissed coach of the Central African Republic national football team, is demanding payment of 104 million FCFA, approximately €160,000, in salary arrears from the government.
Following his termination by the Ministry of Sports and the Central African Football Federation about 10 days ago, Savoy has threatened to escalate the matter to FIFA if his demands are not met. This situation has generated considerable media attention within the country, yet the football federation has remained silent.
In an interview with Africa Intelligence, Savoy expressed his surprise at the manner of his dismissal, stating: “Like everyone else, I learned about it on social media without any official notification.” This displays the lack of professionalism in the Federation’s communication, raising concerns regarding the treatment of coaches in the national setup.
Savoy’s departure followed a series of disappointing performances, including two losses against Morocco in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers. The decision to part ways with the Swiss coach came after he had previously returned to the role in August 2024, although the details of his contract remained undisclosed.
In response to Savoy’s exit, the Central African Football Federation has appointed Éloge Enza Yamissi as the interim coach. Yamissi, a former captain of the national team who played professionally in France, is set to lead the team in critical upcoming qualifiers against Lesotho and Gabon over the next fortnight. His appointment signals the federation’s intent to quickly move forward following Savoy’s departure.
