August 04, (THEWILL) – American golfer, Scottie Scheffler, has won the gold medal in the Olympic Men’s Golf Competition at Le Golf National in Paris. Scheffler shot a remarkable 62 on the final day, tying the course record and finishing with a total score of -19.
Tommy Fleetwood of Great Britain claimed the silver medal with a score of -18, narrowly missing a tying bid on the last hole. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama took bronze at -17. The leaderboard also featured notable performances from Victor Perez (-16), Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm (both -15).
Scheffler’s victory marks the second consecutive gold medal for the United States in Olympic golf, following Xander Schauffele’s win at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Yet, the win was not without drama, as Scheffler overcame a four-stroke deficit to Spain’s Jon Rahm during the final round.
This Olympic triumph adds to Scheffler’s impressive 2024 season, which includes winning the Masters Tournament. He became the first golfer to win both the green jacket and Olympic gold in the same year, according to the NBC broadcast.
Scheffler will now turn his attention to the remainder of the PGA Tour season, aiming to win his first FedEx Cup Championship.
