February 09, (THEWILL) — The Seattle Seahawks claimed their second Super Bowl title with a comprehensive 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Santa Clara on Sunday, avenging their devastating 2015 championship loss to the same opponent. Running back Kenneth Walker III earned Most Valuable Player honours after rushing for 135 yards, whilst Seattle’s defence recorded six sacks and forced two interceptions against Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
Jason Myers made history by converting a Super Bowl-record five field goals, contributing 15 points to Seattle’s total. Australian punter Michael Dickson became the second player from his nation to win a Super Bowl, delivering a critical 55-yard punt that pinned the Patriots deep in their territory.
The Seahawks held New England scoreless until midway through the fourth quarter, when Maye found Mack Hollins for a 35-yard touchdown. Seattle recovered the onside kick attempt to confirm their triumph and deny the Patriots what would have been an NFL-record seventh Super Bowl championship.
