
November 10, (THEWILL) – Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, has commenced the construction of a N400 million ultra-modern civic centre for Isophumini village in Mbeke Ishieke community, Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held Thursday, was officiated by Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Engineer Francis Ori, who praised Nwebonyi’s commitment to the state’s development.
Ori noted that Nwebonyi’s initiative aligns with the administration’s mission of advancing infrastructure and social amenities.
Commending the senator, Ori described him as a high-performing lawmaker, highlighting that in less than two years in office, the lawmaker has facilitated key projects, including roads, electricity, housing for widows, scholarships, and empowerment programs.
He added that the new civic centre, once completed, would rank among the best in the state and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the community.
Nwebonyi shared his vision for the project, stating that the civic center will be a state-of-the-art, multipurpose facility aimed at creating job opportunities and boosting economic activities within the area.
According to him, the project fulfills a core campaign promise to meet his constituents’ needs for essential infrastructure, including roads and electricity.
Reassuring his constituency of his dedication to impactful representation, he pledged continued efforts to bring the dividends of democracy to all parts of Ebonyi North.
He outlined plans to extend developmental projects to every local government within the senatorial zone.
In addition, he announced the planned flag-off of a 10-kilometre internal road in the Izzi Local Government Area set for December 2024, with other road projects scheduled in Ohaukwu and Nnodo-Amike Aba within the Nkaliki axis.
The senator confirmed that work has already commenced on a 1.5-kilometer concrete road in the Abakaliki Council Area.
