BEVERLY HILLS, May 23, (THEWILL) – On his final match in the English Premier League, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero scored a brace to help City thrash Everton 5-0 as the Etihad for a truly fitting end to a glorious career in the English top flight.
City took the lead after just ten minutes as standout midfielder Kevin De Bruyne rifled a stunning effort past Jordan Pickford from 20 yards that was worth the opening of champions.
It was doubled three minutes later with Gabriel Jesus cutting inside the area before lashing past the England goalkeeper whose Toffees side struggled to contain the marauding hosts. They kept their heads up and won themselves a penalty as Ruben Dias took down Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the striker bore down on the net to try for goal.
However, City keeper Ederson Moraes read Gylfi Sigurdsson’s effort from the spot perfectly and saved the spot-kick to preserve City’s 2-0 lead into the interval.
It took only 10 minutes on the second period for City to put the game to bed. The remarkably brilliant Phil Foden shifted onto his right foot before lashing past Pickford from 12 yards out.
Aguero’s introduction gave the 10,000 supporters more to roar about and moreso when he delivered a fairytale finish to his already glorious time at City. Aguero scored with a typically clinical inside the box just minutes after entering the fray, before following that with a brilliant header following another Fernandhino’s pullout.
It was a perfect finish to the season for the Champions and gives them best preparation for next week’s Champions League final, while Everton missed out on a Europa League spot on their own part.
