April 19, (THEWILL) – Napoli moved level on points with Serie A leaders Inter Milan following a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Monza on Saturday.
The away win was decided by Scott McTominay’s second-half header, his ninth league goal of the 2024/2025 campaign.
The match remained goalless throughout the first half, with Monza creating several opportunities.
Pedro Pereira came close to scoring for the home side during this period when Napoli found it difficult to establish their rhythm in the contest.
Antonio Conte’s team demonstrated improved performance after the interval, taking control of proceedings before eventually finding the breakthrough in the 72nd minute.
McTominay converted with a well-placed header from Giacomo Raspadori’s precisely delivered cross from the corner of the penalty area.
The result places Napoli temporarily on equal points with defending champions Inter Milan at the summit of Serie A.
Napoli now hold the second position in the table as they continue their push for the Italian championship.
Conte’s squad will now turn their attention to Sunday’s fixture between Inter Milan and Bologna, hoping the latter can obtain a positive result which would favour Napoli’s position in the title race.
