October 24, (THEWILL) – Maria Sharapova, former world number one and five-time Grand Slam singles champion, will enter the International Tennis Hall of Fame alongside renowned doubles specialists Bob and Mike Bryan in 2025. The induction ceremony will take place on August 23 at the prestigious Newport, Rhode Island venue.
Sharapova’s remarkable career includes the distinction of becoming the first Russian woman to reach the pinnacle of world rankings in 2005. Her achievements encompass victories at all four major tournaments, placing her among an exclusive group of only 10 female players to complete a career Grand Slam in singles competition. The Olympic silver medallist from London 2012 competed at the highest level despite persistent shoulder complications.
The Russian tennis star’s professional path encountered significant challenges in 2016 when she tested positive for meldonium at the Australian Open. Following an initial two-year suspension from the International Tennis Federation, an appeal resulted in a reduced 15-month ban. Upon returning to competition in 2017, Sharapova continued playing until her retirement in February 2020, concluding a career that generated nearly $40 million in prize money.
The Bryan brothers established themselves as the most successful doubles partnership in ATP Tour history. Their exceptional record includes 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles together, maintaining their position at the top of the doubles world rankings for an unprecedented 438 weeks, a record that remains unmatched in professional tennis.
