August 05, (THEWILL) – La Liga giants Barcelona sent the world into shock by revealing on Thursday that their talismanic player Lionel Messi was not going to continue with the club after contract talks did not progress as expected.
Just as hopes of getting the talented Argentine to sign a new prepared deal brightened, the Catalan club put out a statement with a complete reversal of all the progress made to bring the “little magician” back to Camp Nou.
The statement from the club, published on their website read: “Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).
“As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.
“FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”
It is a shocking revelation as it was not the expected turn of events the world saw coming.
